Deliver Us

He entered the world
with the universal cry
for food, for love.
Still a young man
his last breath
was brutally
pressed out of him
nine minutes of torture.
His last cry
was a whisper
heard by the world
mama
mama
mama.

I love your title. Not everyone will get the reference, and those that do will get it in spades. Even those that don't will extrapolate to give it meaning.

The terseness of the poem and lines faces squarely what took place. Send this one to "The New Yorker". Sometimes they print real poems.
